Celestial spheres rejoice in the timeless tale of Tigray Frankincense and its ancient aroma that has heralded eras of connection and communion. This essence exudes a hearty camphorous-carmel base-layer with scented spires of amber capped with the subtlest vesper of citrus, and it is our favorite Frankincense for crafting colognes and perspicacious perfumes.
Inhale the essence of eternity captured in a resin. This specific Frankincense, Boswellia papyrifera, has incensed centuries of sacred spheres and poured into perfumes for royalty to summon reverence and blessedness.
Inhaling a whiff of this seventh wonder of our wise world of Frankincense is completely transformative and restorative.

Our Tigray Frankincense is distilled from golden resin pearls from cultivated trees in the dry, mountain region of Ethiopia. Once established, Tigray trees can live for hundreds of years, though the species is threatened because tree seedlings are often over-grazed by livestock and farmers prematurely or too frequently harvest the resin. Careful harvesting and conservation methods by the farmers who grow Tigray and distil our Frankincense helps to preserve this ancient species for the future. Their preservation will give African bees a real buzz too, because Tigray’s long-blooming season and its pink, sweet smelling flowers provide honeybees with months and months of pollen and nectar.
Since the Middle Ages, Tigray has been the type of Frankincense traditionally used in Roman Catholic ceremonies and rituals to elevate the spirit and promote prayer, and it is sometimes referred to as the classic “church frankincense.” In ancient days, Assyrians, Babylonians, and Egyptians used it to sweeten the voyages of ship travel, as incense for temple ceremonies, and to smooth the transition to the afterlife. Tigray can also take your spiritual life to new heights. Get centered by inhaling straight from the bottle, or mix a masterful meditation blend by combing Tigray, Cedar, and Myrrh. The warm, deep, rosy, and citrusy essence of Tigray fragrance invigorates the mind and eases emotions, because, as botanical studies on plant compounds have found, there are significant amounts of octyl acetate, octanol, incensole, and incensole acetate in Tigray. These compounds can create a “frankincense and chill” vibe.
Transcendent Tigray is also tonifying. As with all Frankincense essential oils, it is superb for the skin and can be used neat or diluted in your favorite massage oils or soothing skin serums. For a quick mental boost, place one drop on the palm of the hand and then inhale. Make your breathing better in winter and lend your space a warm, invigorating aroma by diffusing a combination of Tigray, Pine, and Peppermint.
