Castor OilA Closer Look at Castor Oil's Benefits
Castor oil is a talented triglyceride composed primarily of rare ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid known for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and skin-conditioning properties. This remarkable composition gives castor oil a wide range of skin-soothing benefits:
  • Skin Savior: Castor oil deeply penetrates the skin, helping to balance moisture levels, soothe irritation, and reduce the appearance of scars, blemishes, and stretch marks.
  • Hair Hero: Castor oil is renowned for promoting hair growth and strengthening hair follicles. It can be applied to the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes to encourage healthy, lustrous growth.
  • Lymphatic Support: Castor oil's unique properties make it a valuable tool for supporting lymphatic drainage and detoxification. Castor oil packs applied to the abdomen or other areas of the body can stimulate circulation and promote the elimination of toxins.
  • Digestive Soother: Castor oil has traditionally been used to support digestive health and relieve constipation.

How to Make a Castor Oil Pack

Gather your supplies: Mason jar, organic Castor Oil, cotton flannel, a thicker towel or plastic protective barrier to cover the cotton flannel, and a hot water bottle or an infrared heating pad. There are tons of options on Etsy for cotton flannel and leak-proof washable backing for creating packs for the thyroid, belly, etc.

  1. Cut the flannel into three strips sized to suit the area of the body you are covering, and soak the flannel in castor oil in the Mason jar.  Shake the jar every so often to soak all areas of the cloth
  2. Create the time and space to relax with a pack for at least an hour, or set up for overnight. Castor oil stains so set up the area with older towels or wear older clothes.
  3. Place the soaked cloth strips over the area to treat. Cover with the plastic or protective barrier, and apply the heat source. Relax for an hour or more as the castor works its magic.
  4. Wash the flannel strips in natural laundry soap with baking soda to remove the Castor Oil. Put clean flannel strips in the Mason jar to soak, and store it in the fridge until you are ready for another pack.
