PERSIAN ROSE OTTO: THE REGAL + RADIANT HEART-SWOON
Perfectly pleasant Persian Rose Otto Essential Oil invites noses to stop and smell the Roses. This Rose thrives under mountainous skies where its blousy, bright, blushing blossoms scent the breeze for just one day. The poetic Rose of Persian Roses legendarily swooned the hearts and noses of Hafiz and Rumi, as well as the physician-perfumist-physicists Avicenna and Al-Kindi. While Avicenna was among the first to steam-distill Rosewater for his pharmakon formulations, Al-Kindi pioneered the use of copper alembics to further refine these essences into liquids of absolute purity. This fine essence remains a romantically regal addition to the full bouquet of our Rose oil offerings.
That which God said to the Rose, and caused it to laugh in full-blown beauty, He said to my heart, and made it a hundred times more beautiful. — Rumi
The Bio-Energetic Hug: The Vital Spirit of Rose Otto
In his seminal ninth-century treatise, The Book of the Chemistry of Perfume and Distillations, Al-Kindi recognized that different floral treasures held functional inverse roles in the ancient humoral system. While he viewed Jasmine as a "hot and dry" ember whose scent could spark withdrawn emotions, he classified Rose as "cool and dry," prescribing it as a calmative and stabilizer: a "soothing hug" to settle a heart that was "too hot". In his pharmacopeia, Jasmine is the molecular spark of the heart, while Rose is the steadfast "emblem" of the heart, representing the radiant, open energy of the embraced sun.
Al-Kindi also observed the Velocity of Scent (Nafadh), noting that while some fragrances penetrate with agile velocity, Rose is laden with fragrant floral waxes that lingers like a benevolent blanket. This tenacity is gifted by its high concentration of natural petal waxes, which allow the scent to remain steadfast. Rose Otto’s vestal vapors pervade the senses to stabilize the kingdom of the heart, its fragrant ether emanating monoterpenic molecules that emit fine frequencies that calibrate our filaments.
The Persian Rose harvest is a fleeting May moment where each blossom blooms for but a day. Before the sun’s first light, while the Rose’s essential oils are at their peak within the petals, bountiful baskets of dewy, buoyant blooms are gathered for hydrodistillation, a meticulous water-and-steam process in copper alembics that releases both the essential oil and the wonderful, watery distillate called Rosewater. This essential oil is a true “Otto,” a term referring to this traditional and precise distillation. Otto is the only type of Rose essence one wants to use in skincare; its pure plant poetry has a special phytochemical affinity for the skin to soften, revive, and make pallid skin spring to life.
How did the Rose ever open its heart and give to this world all its beauty? It felt the encouragement of light in its being. — Hafiz

Botanical Name: Rosa damascena
Extraction Method: Hydro-distilled
Part of Plant Distilled: Flowers
Country of Origin: Bulgaria
Consistency: Thin to medium. The precious petal waxes of this exquisite oil will solidify in cool temperatures. This is a botanical hallmark of purity and evidence of a true otto distillation. Rose petals are coated in natural waxes called stearoptenes, specifically long-chain alkanes like nonadecane (26%) and heneicosane (11%), which protect the delicate blooms from dehydration. Because our Persian Rose is exceptionally high in these waxes, it excels at skincare by providing a protective, breathable barrier. When the oil is cool, these molecules huddle together and crystallize, turning the liquid into a floral solid. If your Rose refuses to pour, simply warm the bottle in your hands for a few moments to invite the floral-wax back into a liquid state.
Scent Description: A deep-sweet, honey-like Rose with a tenacious, waxy-petal undertone. Compared to the champagne-effervescence of our classic Rose Otto, the Persian variety is softer, rounder, with an elevated-ancient sweetness. Invitational rosy-citral notes compliment a generous floral base.
Blends Beautifully: Frankincense, Grapefruit, Sandalwood, Fragonia, Honey Myrtle, Palo Santo, Douglas Fir, Myrrh, Ylang, Spikenard, Vanilla, Cape Chamomile, other Roses, Silver Fir, Bergamot, Marjoram, and Lavender
Key Constituents: The Phytochemistry of Rosy Radiance
Analysis reveals the composition for a premium Persian Rose, characterized by a unique balance of floral alcohols and a high concentration of fixative petal waxes. This Persian Rose Otto knows how to soothe, smooth, sweeten, and strengthen with concentrated constituents that are the building blocks of its unique essence. While our classic Rose Otto variety is dominated by high percentages of alcohols, the Persian variety is distinguished by its incredible stearoptenic depth.
What sets the Persian Rose apart is its saturation in a waxy halo of stearoptenes: nonadecane (26%), heneicosane (11%), and heptadecane (4%). These natural stearoptenes provide a dewy, protective quality for the skin that is rare in other distillations. The pure essence of Rose is defined by a master group of molecules prized for their gentleness. The prominent monoterpene alcohol, citronellol (11%), provides the sweet, Rose-like aroma and skin-tonifying qualities. Geraniol (3%) and nerol (2%) offer a calm balm for delicate complexions, while phenylethyl alcohol (2%) and trace linalool provide superlative skin-soothing benefits. Combined with trace sesquiterpenes of germacrene and beta-caryophyllene, the result is an aromatic embrace that initiates a phytochemical resonance with our receptors, fulfilling its fragrant fate as a sublime substance for skin, heart, and mind.

PERSIAN ROSE OTTO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is the Persian Rose Otto so much "waxier" than other Rose oils?
The Persian Rose Otto is a floral-wax phenomenon, it is more abundant in natural petal stearoptenes than the classic Rose Otto variety. Our analysis confirms it contains a juicy nonadecane (26%) and heneicosane (11%) content. These long-chain alkanes are the plant's own survival mechanism to prevent dehydration, and in skincare, they provide a dewy, protective barrier locking in moisture while allowing the skin to breathe. Because of this high wax content, the oil will crystallize and turn into a "floral solid" much faster in cool temperatures; simply warm the bottle in your hands to return it to a liquid state.
How does the scent of Persian Rose Otto compare to the classic Rose Otto?
The Persian variety is a deep-sweet, honey-like Rose with a tenacious, waxy-petal undertone. While classic Rose Otto is often prized for ethereal, citrusy alcohol notes, the Persian Rose is softer, rounder, with an ancient sweetness. It captures the pristine nectar of a Rose greeting the sunrise, blooming with a distinct hint of lemony-honey and a radiant floral base note that feels serene and "heart-swooning".
Is this Persian variety as effective for neurogenesis as the Bulgarian Rose Otto?
Yes, as both are derived from the Rosa damascena species used in the recent 2024 neuroscience research. The Persian variety still maintains the core monoterpenic alcohols, including Citronellol (11%), Geraniol (3%), and Nerol (2%), that act as a positive neurotonic for the mind and heart.
Can I use Persian Rose Otto directly on my skin for scars or spots?
Absolutely. In fact, the high wax content of the Persian Rose makes it a superlative "dermal-refiner" for softening the appearance of scars, fine lines, and skin texture. You can apply one tiny, potent drop "neat" (directly) to areas needing rejuvenation to deliver a concentrated phytochemical signal. For a full-body fortifier or a personalized beauty balm, we recommend a 2% to 3% dilution in carrier oils like Jojoba or Rosehips. It acts as a "calm balm" that is particularly beneficial for delicate or dull complexions.
