Water’s embrace of the skin welcomes our Libations in.

Living Libations skincare is abundant in skin-loving lipids. The best application of our Libations begins with a spritz or a splash of water to dampen and lubricate the skin for superb saturation. Water gently guides the fingers across the skin, letting oil spread easily and evenly across the skin— and you use less Libation!

Skin Surface Science

Oil and water don’t mix, as the adage goes, and this reflects the different natures of oil and water molecules. Water is a polar molecule; like a magnet, a water molecule has a positive-charge end and a negative-charge end. Yet, oil molecules are non-polar (lack a charge), and thus oil and water molecules repel instead of attract. We can use this knowledge to benefit the skin.

You have probably noticed that it sometimes takes effort to apply a lipid-oil to the skin as the oil resists spreading. Yet when the skin is slightly damp with water, the water reduces surface tension making it easier to spread the oil. The film of water also disrupts oil droplet formation, which helps the oil spread smoothly and evenly. Just a tiny bit of water makes the oils slide and glide!

Our skin is lipophilic and draws Libations lipids to the skin surface where they temporarily get trapped between the skin and the film of water. This little water trap slows the evaporation of essential oils allowing the skin more time to absorb them. (This is also why washing with oils works so well; the water trap allows the fatty oils to grab on to dirt, makeup, and dead skin cells until they
are rinsed or wiped away.)

AMAZING AQUAS AND HAPPY HYDROS

Pure water is wonderful, and all it takes for smooth spreading is a touch of water on the fingertips to dampen the skin. You can preserve dampness after a shower, use a damp cloth to apply your Libation, or the simplest solution is to use a touch of water with your fingertips.

Beyond pure water, there is an assortment of amazing aquas and happy hydros that elevate skincare, love the lipid barrier, and activate the acid mantle for skin that shines clear and bright.

With effective, natural aqueous solutions for cleansing and toning the skin, there is no need to use the lifeless liquids of industrial chemical toners and synthetic spritzes that send the skin spinning in an endless cycle of compensating for a stripped protective stratum corneum, lipid barrier, and biome while negatively affecting the acid mantle.

Trusted Toners and Luscious Liquids for Clear Complexions
Successfully saturating the stratum corneum and satisfying thirsty cells starts with pure ingredients. The following waters are all amazing for fresh, dewy skin. Just decant one into a spray bottle and spritz away!

Rose Glow Complexion Mist – The soul of this spritz is pure rose hydrosol that is created by steam-distilling fresh petals of Bulgarian (Rosa damascena) roses. This mildly astringent water of roses is captured early in the distillation process, when micro-soluble components of pure rose oil infuse the hydrosol with beneficial botanicals. The result is a gentle-yet-potent hydrosol that is never oversaturated or cut with extra water. Rose hydrosol is a hydrating humectant that soothes, moisturizes, and drenches skin in delectable moisture with spritz after spritz of rejuvenating rose. Our Rose Glow Complexion Mist is a portable shower of skin healing power.

Frankincense Face Tonic - Frankincense water, also known as Frankincense Hydrosol, is the aqueous solution that comes from the distillation of frankincense tears. No additional water is added. This sacred water is secreted from the distillation of the sap, and it contains all of the micro-soluble components of frankincense, offering a natural tonic and effective astringent with a fortifying fragrance. Fundamentally, this refreshing frankincense face toner is an aqueous version of the aromatic essential oil.

Apple Cider Vinegar Acid Mantle Potion – This ancient acid wash is easy to make and the perfect pH astringent toner. A 30-50% dilution of organic apple cider vinegar with spring water makes an awesome astringent toner for revitalizing the acid mantle and brightening complexions. A 20% dilution can be made for sun-drenched skin and as a toner for sensitive skin. The best waters for diluting are spring water, distilled water, depleted deuterium water, or reverse osmosis water.

Humic or Fulvic Water: Humic and Fulvic water contain almost a hundred minerals, mostly ionic, amino acids, and vitamins that are present in groundwater from organic matter. Fulvic and humic acids are found naturally in the healthiest rivers, creeks and lakes and they are often found in bottled ionic spring water. Spritzing humic or fulvic water on the skin is potently anti-inflammatory, and it conditions the skin to effectively absorb the oils and nutrients in your favorite Libations. Make your own spritzer by combining about one ounce of food-grade humic acid or fulvic acid in five ounces of pure water. Add a couple of drops of your favorite Dew Dab, Frankincense, Lavender, Immortelle, or Rose Otto to boost the benefits of botanicals.

Hypochlorous Water – This biome-balancing water is created when deionized water is electrolyzed with pure salt. In this process, hypochlorous acid, a weak acid that is also naturally produced by the immune system, is created in the water. Hypochlorous Water is an excellent toner for all manner of skin conditions. Create your own: there are also devices to generate hypochlorous water at home.

Pure Water – Lovely pure water is one of nature’s greatest gifts for health and beauty. Fresh spring water is our favorite option though filtered, distilled, depleted deuterium, and reverse osmosis waters are great too. Bring the beauty of botanicals to your bottle of water by adding a couple of drops of your favorite Dew Dab, Frankincense, Lavender, Immortelle, or Rose Otto essential oils. For a more advanced mixology, try adding a reconstituted vial of BPC 157 for a super regenerative, pro-collagen spritz.

Liquids to Leave on the Shelf
Most beauty aisle waters and toners are best left on the shelf as they are less than beneficial for the skin and biome. Some of these solutions sound harmless, yet a close reading of the ingredients finds a bevy of synthetic additions. Here are a few examples:

Witch Hazel Toners – Witch Hazel in theory is a nice concept, yet it is never a single ingredient plant distillate. Distilled witch hazel comes with ethanol alcohol, glycerin, and phenoxyethanol.

Alcohol-based Acne and Complexion Toners – Lining the drug store aisles and beauty counters, alcohol toners tout a refreshing, pore-tightening clean yet one swipe of this synthetic type of alcohol removes the skin’s protective system, mutates the microbiome, disrupts the lipid barrier, and leaves the skin looking and feeling dry and tight.

Fat Water – This solution found on cosmetic shelves is merely water with a B vitamin and extracts mixed with synthetics such as butylene glycol, ethanol, cross-polymers, silicone, colorants, and fake fragrances. Better to ditch the synthetics and stick with plain water.

Micellar Water – Best to skip this skin surfactant liquid of micelles (molecules of surfactants that can dissolve lipids) mixed with solvents and preservatives suspended in regular water. Essentially, it is a bottle of detergents and chemicals in water.

SEVEN SKINS HYDRATION

Seven Skins is a traditional and trending Korean method for creating a hydrated, dewy complexion. Watery toners, called skins in Korea, are lightly layered seven times on the face and neck. This simple, light-handed technique encourages the skin to absorb more of the hydrating ingredients for plump skin with a glassy glow.

The Seven Skins Technique
After washing the skin with your favorite Best Skin Ever, mist and then lightly pat a hydrous toner over your face and neck. Wait until the skin absorbs most of the toner before applying the second skin, and continue using the same technique up to seven times. While the last layer is still damp, apply a Best Skin Ever or Rose Glow, Ensorcell, Soothsayer or any Libations serum to seal in the hydration. After this layer, you can do a 8 th bonus dewy layer of adding a drop of a Dew Dab, or Ozonated Dew Dab, then mist and lightly pat one more time.

Boost the botanicals in your Seven Skin spa by adding a few drops of a Dew Dab or skin-loving essential oils to your toners. A few of our favorite additions are toning Frankincense occulta or carterii, replenishing Rose Otto, softening lavender, perfecting Immortelle, balancing Carrot Seed, and clarifying Geranium.

Seven Skins is just a suggestion — tune in to your skin and apply the amount of layers that give you perfectly dewy skin. Pamper yourself with a Seven Skin spa every day, every week, or when you see that your skin needs some TLC.
