CLARY SAGE ABSOLUTE: CLASSIC CHYPRE OF PERFUMERY

Step into the studio of the master perfumer and elevate your aromatic creations with the sumptuous, sweet amber bouquet of enchanting Clary Sage Absolute. Extracted from the vibrant flowering tops of organic Salvia sclarea harvested in the height of August when the honeyed, musky fragrance is strongest, this absolute is a legendary crown jewel in luxury scent composition. While the essential oil version offers a clarifying herbal sparkle, the absolute is multi-layered, revealing a rich, sweet, and warm balsamic tapestry where field-florals, forest-fougères, and captivating chypre notes seamlessly intertwine.

An excellent, tenacious heart note and fixative for crafting fine fragrance. Clary Sage Absolute is esteemed as a premium, natural perfume fixative, a key element of classic compositions that anchors volatile top notes, bridges the middle notes, and makes the perfume last all day. Clary Sage Absolute offers a nuanced full-bodied fragrance for formulating sophisticated chypres, traditional lavender fougères, rootsy-rogue scents, and zesty citrus colognes.

"Clary Sage Absolute is an extremely interesting perfume material, an extremely rich, delicately sweet… somewhat herbaceous odor of great tenacity. The slightly bitter undertone is utilized with good results in amber perfume bases, while the rich and sweet body blends extremely well with citrus colognes and lavender fougères."

Phytoconstituents + Perfumery Chemistry: The chemical architecture of our organic Clary Sage Absolute is perfectly optimized for scent longevity, sillage, and emotional resonance. The unique phytochemical fingerprint of this absolute is defined by the sclareol anchor, a solid, non-distillable diterpene alcohol that—because it is a heavy, complex molecule—acts as an unparalleled natural fixative, bonding with lighter scent notes and allowing them to linger on the skin for hours. This grounding resinous base is beautifully uplifted by the fruity ester contrast of rich amounts of linalyl acetate, a fruity, elegant-smelling ester that imparts a bright, wine-like freshness to the top and heart of the fragrance.

CLARY SAGE ABSOLUTE: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the difference between Clary Sage Essential Oil and Clary Sage Absolute?
The primary difference lies in the extraction method, which completely changes the aroma, chemistry, and purpose of the oil. The essential oil is steam distilled, capturing the lighter, highly volatile, and more distinctly herbal-fruity components of the plant. It is excellent for skincare, aromatherapy, and moontime massage. The absolute is solvent extraction, a process that pulls out the heavier, denser, and non-distillable waxes, resins, and diterpene alcohols (like sclareol). This makes the absolute far richer, sweeter, and more ambery, transforming it into a tenacious perfume fixative designed specifically for scent creation, incense bases, and ambient diffusion rather than daily topical skincare.

Why is your Clary Sage Absolute pre-diluted with 50% Organic Biodynamic Alcohol?
In its 100% pure form, a botanical absolute is a solid, sticky, green waxy paste that is notoriously difficult to measure, pour, or dissolve into other essential oils without heating. To save the frustration and preserve the delicate scent notes, we have pre-blended it in a perfect 50:50 ratio with our premium, triple-filtered organic grape alcohol. This makes the absolute a beautiful, pourable medium-viscosity fluid that mixes effortlessly into your DIY perfume formulations drop by drop.

How should I use this absolute to make my perfumes last longer?
Because of its high sclareol content, Clary Sage Absolute is a natural "base note fixative." When creating a custom perfume, blend the absolute with your heavy base roots (like Vetiver or Sandalwood) and your heart notes first. Let them marry, then add your volatile top notes (like Citrus or Bergamot). The absolute will literally wrap around those lighter notes, anchoring them to the skin and dramatically slowing down their evaporation rate so your finished fragrance lasts beautifully throughout the day.
